Watch the replay of the media briefing following the 316th ESA Council which takes place on 28 and 29 June in Stockholm. ESA Council Chair Anna Rathsman (Sweden) and ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher will share the outcome of the meeting and provide an update on the launch of new ESA Earth observation missions, upcoming astronaut missions, the Space Summit planned for 6-7 November 2023 in Sevilla (Spain), as well as the decision on the public release of official ESA documents.

      Living Planet Symposium 2025: Opening session

      Video: 02:08:03 ESA’s Living Planet Symposium, one of the world’s leading Earth observation conferences, opened today in Vienna. The plenary session began at 10:30 CEST and included addresses from ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher and ESA Director of Earth Observation Programmes Simonetta Cheli, as well as Margit Mischkulnig, from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Innovation.
      There were video addresses from President of Austria, Alexander van der Bellen, Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure Republic of Austria Peter Hanke and the EU Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius. Representatives of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, ECMWF, IPCC, Eumetsat, Nordic Bildung and ETH Zurich also spoke during the opening session.
      The first images from Biomass, ESA’s forest mission, launched earlier this year, were also presented during the opening plenary.
      More than 6500 participants from almost 120 countries signed up to attend the event. With more than 4200 scientific presentations and posters, the symposium provides a forum and meeting point for scientists, academics and space industry representatives, as well as students and citizens.
      The Living Planet Symposium takes place every three years and this year the focus is ‘from observation to climate action and sustainability for Earth’. Held in the Austrian capital over five days from today to 27 June, participants can take part in discussions on how we can work together in the fields of Earth science and with the Earth observation industry to ensure robust data and promote effective climate action to address the environmental crisis, with presentations also on new trends in Earth observation.

      Preparations for Next Moonwalk Simulations Underway (and Underwater)

      April 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM EDT NASA’s Digital Information Platform (DIP) sub-project as part of Air Traffic Management -eXploration (ATM-X) project has recently released the Request for Information (RFI) to obtain information to define collaboration strategy and identify community needs and goals. As a follow-on activity, DIP hosted an online information session to provide the stakeholder community with background of DIP sub-project, example use cases, collaboration approach, and areas of potential contributions both from NASA and interested parties. The purpose of the information session was to help the community understand the scope of the sub-project and thus respond to the RFI in a meaningful way.

      NASA’s Digital Information Platform (DIP) sub-project as part of Air Traffic Management -eXploration (ATM-X) project has received responses to the Request for Information (RFI) from aviation community. As a follow-on activity, DIP is hosting an online information session to brief out to the community with the summary of RFI inputs as well as the latest updates on DIP sub-project planning. The purpose of this session is to share the valuable inputs from the RFI responses on data & service needs for airspace operations, recommended use cases for DIP collaborative demos, and potential data and technology services that can be provided by the DIP platform through NASA-industry collaboration.
      Interested parties are encouraged to register for the outbrief session by submitting the registration form shown below. The outbrief session will be organized by a series of presentation followed by a Q&A session, and will be available through MS Teams.

      This Announcement of Collaborative Opportunity (ACO) is intended to solicit service providers and data integrators who are willing to develop and provide access to digital aviation services for the Partner Services (PS) Evaluations to validate the concept, functions, and interfaces to the DIP platform. Service providers for conventional flight operations, advanced air mobility, and urban air mobility operations are encouraged to participate. (For the details of the collaboration, please read the full Announcement on sam.gov website (ID: 80ARC023JAI -DIP)).
      This information session will provide detailed information on the ACO, including the scope of collaboration and submission instructions. The goals and mutual benefits of the PS evaluations and types of services being requested will be covered. This session will also give insights into platform development, technology, and NASA developed digital services. Engagement with the broader aviation community is a critical component to success of the DIP sub-project!
      Information Session: DIP for Service Providers Announcement of Collaboration Opportunity
      This session will cover topics related to Service Providers. Participants will get a look at how the DIP platform architecture supports the onboarding process as well as platform features including catalog, service registration, and accessing the services via APIs. The ACO information session is intended to cover the following:
      DIP platform and digital services overview Partner Services (PS) evaluations overview Expectations of partners   ACO submission instructions What to expect after an ACO is submitted  Who Should Register?
      Participants interested in partnering with DIP with services to provide are highly encouraged to attend this session. Both service providers and data integrators are encouraged to attend this workshop to learn about DIP Partner Services (PS) Evaluations and submission of ACO response.
      Participants looking to gain insight into upcoming DIP demonstrations or to learn more about DIP are encouraged to attend as well.
